New Version of Particleworks Adds Multi-Resolution and Upgraded Air-phase Modeling

Particleworks Particle-Based, Mesh-Free CFD software adds new features and enhancements in latest version

MCKINNEY, Texas – August 3, 2023 – EnginSoft USA, experts in CAE software and solutions, today announced the availability of Particleworks 8.0.

Particleworks by Prometech is an advanced software for simulating the movement of fluids. The cutting-edge, particle-based simulator makes it easy to create and analyze 3D models in a variety of industrial contexts ‒ from oil sloshing and cooling for the automotive industry to mixing and kneading for medicine and plastics.

The release of Particleworks 8.0 introduces significant advancements and improved capabilities. This version incorporates innovative methodologies, such as Multi-Resolution for particle size refinement and the Moving Particle Full-Implicit method. The benefit of the new multi-resolution feature is that models can continue to run in a reasonable amount of time while smaller particles are implemented in locations of the model where a small particle size is needed, improving the accuracy of results. The Moving Particle Full-Implicit method solves pressure and viscosity simultaneously, allowing flows with low Reynolds number and high pressure to be solved in significantly less time.

Air-phase modeling has been upgraded with the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) supporting a turbulence model and enhanced mesh generation, providing more accurate and efficient simulations. Additionally, the Finite Volume Method (FVM) with an algebraic multigrid method for faster pressure calculations, along with intermediate result output for steady-state simulations, empowers engineers to achieve precise air resistance models.

This release also facilitates conjugate heat transfer analysis with improved capabilities for utilizing spatially distributed physical quantities as boundary conditions, supporting temperature, heat source, and heat flux. The graphical user interface (GUI) allows the visualization of physical quantity distributions, enhancing the analysis process. The benefit of these boundary condition enhancements is the ability to use fluid simulation results as the input for a heat transfer problem with a different timescale. This allows users to solve complex fluid-thermal problems entirely inside Particleworks.

Particleworks 8.0 also incorporates a snow model based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, providing comprehensive insights into the behavior of Bingham fluid models. A new negative pressure model has been introduced to further refine simulations and allows users to reproduce suction effects such as a siphon. The snow model is a great addition for companies who already use Particleworks to understand how rain interacts with their vehicles to expand their simulations to cover all 4 seasons.

Other notable additions include:

  • passive scalar calculation and an interactive Python console
  • improved connected inflows, enabling seamless connectivity between multiple inflows and outflows
  • dynamic contact angle model and a potential amplifier for near-wall particles enhances simulations in complex situations
  • integration of DEM-MPS co-simulations with volume exclusion effects

With these powerful new features and improvements, Particleworks 8.0 empowers engineers to optimize machine design, analyze complex physical phenomena, and gain deeper insights into fluid dynamics and particle behavior.
